As India's largest base for maintenance, overhaul, improvement, assembly and production of Russian-made fighters, the industrial park has played an important role in enhancing the combat capability of the Indian Air Force for decades.

Details: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is a large state-owned aviation conglomerate headquartered in Bangalore, whose main mission is to meet the needs of the three Indian services for aviation equipment, with 19 production branches and 9 R&D centers in India.

Nashik Industrial Park is the aircraft manufacturing arm of HAL Corporation located in the southwestern Indian state of Maharashtra, about 200 km northeast of Mumbai. Established in 1964, the industrial park has several factories for aircraft manufacturing, repair and improvement. Its initial mission was to license the production of MiG-21FL fighters, K-13 (AA-2) air-to-air missiles, and R-11, R-25, R-29, and RD-33 engines for MiG-series aircraft. In addition to overhauling the Indian Air Force's MiG-21MF/BIS/BISON/U, the aircraft overhaul branch undertook the improvement of 125 MiG-21BISON, the last of which was completed in early 2007.
