Investment Project:
Swiss enterprise is a technology company in the field of advanced materials, focusing on the development, production and commercialization of metal-organic framework (MOF). These highly porous adsorbents provide competitive solutions to problems such as water shortage, food waste and carbon capture.
Metal skeleton material (MOFs) is a kind of porous adsorbent developed in recent years. They are hybrid materials formed by combining metal centers with organic ligands. MOFs has a high surface area, allowing record-breaking adsorption capacity. They can also fine-tune the surface chemistry, allow pore size control, and increase the selectivity of MOFs in the adsorption process.
MOFs can be used for atmospheric water collection; These mixed materials can greatly reduce the energy input to achieve a more effective adsorption-desorption process. MOFs can adsorb water at a humidity level as low as 32% rH, making it suitable for drought conditions. Although other adsorbents such as zeolite and silica can be used for atmospheric water collection, they need a higher release temperature (higher than 120°C) than MOFs (lower than 100°C), which makes them dependent on the energy system. No matter whether it is membrane system or adsorption technology, mof-based materials show good results in actual weather conditions. Their efficiency is comparable to that of other mature low-energy methods. Water is absorbed in cold nights, while it is hydrolyzed and absorbed by sunlight in daytime. In this configuration, you can run a cycle every day, powered by the sun. Additional energy can be used to run multiple cycles per hour to improve daily water productivity.
Advantages of the project:
Be good at the combination of various porous materials, reduce the disadvantages of single material and enlarge the advantages of each material. For example, MOF can be used in composite or membrane form with zeolite and porous carbon. One of the simple ways to combine them together is by manufacturing mixed matrix membrane (MMM). MMM is composed of polymer and solid porous filler, which aims to keep the flexibility of polymer while maintaining the filtration capacity.
