The construction project of carrageenan processing plant was initiated by the Government of Tawe-Tawe, Philippines. The construction site is Malassa Town, Bango City, Tawe-Tawe, Philippines.

Production capacity: 3000 tons

Project background
Tawe - Tawe province is one of the largest algae producers in the Philippines, with an output of 305,902 tons in 2015. The province mainly exports raw and dry algae to neighboring countries and regions, and carrageenan to the United States, Europe and Asia. The growing demand for carrageenan worldwide is a huge market opportunity for Tawe - Tawe province to take advantage of. In order for Tawe-Tawe to become a major player in the industry globally, Tawe-Tawe must upgrade and expand seaweed production and focus on processing and exporting carrageenan.
The proposed location of the Tawe-Tawe-Special Economic and Free Port Zone on 74 hectares of land in The city of Bang au where the proposed carraeenan processing plant is to be built,
The supply of raw seaweed will come from different nearby cities. The proposed plant will be able to process 3,000 tons of dried seaweed a year, from which it will be processed into cards
The conversion rate used by pull glue is 40%.
