Project introduction:

A high-end materials research institute in Barcelona, Spain focuses on advanced functional materials widely used from energy to health. The purpose of this paper is to promote the knowledge frontier of the design, synthesis and research of new bioactive materials for treatment and diagnosis, understand their interaction with biological entities, and confirm their selectivity and effectiveness, so as to form a nano-medical system.

NCT is a form of highly linear energy transfer radiotherapy, which uses the potential of certain isotopes to capture neutrons and emit short-range particles. High linear energy (LET) particles are suitable for high-precision cancer cell eradication. Boron -10(10B) is a common element in NCT. However, the key problems such as biological distribution and low tumor transmission limit the efficiency of existing molecular systems. We propose an innovative method to fill carbon nanocapsules rich in lithium (6Li). The encapsulation of 6Li avoids its interaction with the biological environment and allows high-density active isotopes to be transported to the target. The surface of nanocarriers has been modified to improve biocompatibility. The nuclear products produced by 6Li neutron irradiation have high therapeutic potential. Compared with the current advanced technology, it can significantly improve the efficiency of NCT in eradicating cancer cells.
