Project introduction:

Austrian companies have been changing from pure infrastructure operators (responsible for the planning, construction and operation of Austrian highways and expressway networks) to reliable, innovative and sustainable future transportation partners. The company will make use of the existing infrastructure and give priority to public transportation in all sections, and further introduce measures to improve the utilization rate. The company hopes to give full play to its role as a transportation partner and make important contributions to green transportation.

The ideal highway cross section should have all the functions of auxiliary systems, such as restraint system (railings, crash barriers), noise protection measures, energy production, slope protection, intelligent transportation system and accompanying routes, especially in intercity areas, which should provide space for active transportation such as bicycles.

In order to improve cost-effectiveness, save space, achieve this ideal cross-section and reduce soil sealing, innovative solutions (such as finished parts) are needed.

Application field:

-Smart cities

-Cars, motorcycles and light transportation

-Sustainable buildings and infrastructure

Cooperation mode:

Seeking innovative technology and organizational measures can make bicycle lanes safely run on, beside, below or above highways and expressways, and save resources.

Expected results:

On the one hand, the existing ASFINAG expressway system should be structurally integrated, and on the other hand, it should meet the needs of cyclists (greening on bicycle lanes, convenient commuting routes, avoiding traffic jams near metropolises, etc.). The route design can rely entirely on bicycles, and can also be combined with bicycles, cars or public transport.

In addition, the solution of driving directly on the expressway, such as temporary partition walls, obstacles or time-limited entry elements, can also be adopted to realize the sustainable integration of active traffic into the ideal cross section of the expressway. Modular solutions are also welcome to improve the sound insulation effect, greening or exhaust gas absorption or filtration effect of cyclists or the overall design of cycling environment (greening, art, etc.), and even match the basic structural elements of cycling expressway. Sustainable building materials (such as covering, sound insulation and safety) are also important.
