Project introduction:

The purpose of this project is to find and synthesize bacteria suitable for waste wood to develop microbial-based wood adhesives. At present, the partners of the alliance are Straits University (a leading national university) and ADEL Kalemcilik, a leading manufacturer in the stationery industry). They are looking for allies and partners for the project.

Alliance overview:

The University of the Straits (BU) is a leading national university in Turkey with a history of 160 years and a long tradition of international cooperation. There are 436 full-time faculty members, 142 lecturers, 82 foreign lecturers, 23 research assistants and 751 managers. As a research university, the university has 32 research centers and 165 research laboratories dedicated to unique research topics.

Adel Kalemcilik started operation in Istanbul in 1969. Adel belongs to Anadolu Group, which was founded in 1950, and has business in 19 countries, 80 companies and 61 production plants in the Atlantic to Pacific region, with more than 50,000 employees. Its products are exported to more than 50 countries, and its wooden pencils account for nearly 13% of European sales.

Application field:

-Biotechnology

-Sustainability

-Circular economy

-Chemicals and plastics

-Processing of raw materials, metals and other materials

Cooperation mode:

It is expected that the alliance will be composed of at least 9 partners and be responsible for 7 tasks.

Team 1 (Straits University)-Isolation of bacteria suitable for treating waste sawdust in Adel pencil production, and development of molecules synthesized from bacteria on a laboratory scale.

Team 2-Characterization of molecules isolated from bacteria (seeking partners)

Team 3-Develop adhesives and binders compatible with waste sawdust from isolated molecules. (seeking partners)

Team 4-Developed adhesives and spectral characterization of adhesives (seeking partners)

Team 5 -(Adel Kalemcilik) will mix adhesive and sawdust into boards, and use the boards to develop commercial products (pencils).

Team 6-Characterization of Molding Board (Seeking Partners)

Team 7-Measure the biological content of finished products. If the product is biodegradable, analyze its life cycle; Measurement of biodegradation in nature, etc.
