Elastic seals such as rubber gaskets and O-rings ha ve been the "default" sealing solutions for a long time, and ha ve been applied in almost different industries. However, the elastic seal is easy to fail at high temperature and pressure. For applications in harsh environments, only metal-to-metal seals can provide necessary elasticity and performance. The traditional sealing solution to solve this problem is to sandwich a layer of soft elastic material in the interface between any two parts of the system. Metal seals are provided with a larger working temperature range than elastic seals.
