Project introduction:

A Bulgarian research team with R&D experience in the fields of general and inorganic chemistry developed a rice hull treatment technology based on thermochemical methods, and transformed it into value-added carbon-silicon materials. The team is seeking to sign a commercial agreement of technical assistance with interested companies to introduce the technology or technical cooperation agreement for further development.

This technology refers to the complex processing of agricultural wastes such as rice hulls. Rice production is a traditional sector in agriculture, which is directly related to the accumulation of flaky waste, accounting for about 20% of the weight of untreated rice.

The amount of this kind of waste, currently only in Bulgaria, exceeds 11,000 tons per year, and it shows a steady growth trend. Because of its low calorific value, high ash content and low nutritional value, rice flakes can't be used as feed or energy. Its deposition is related to double pressures, on the one hand, the environmental pressure, and on the other hand, the economic pressure of rice producers.

The proposed technology developed by Bulgarian research organization is based on the fact that rice husk is a natural source of C and Si. Through appropriate thermochemical treatment methods, different carbon-containing silicon materials with added value and different practicability can be obtained, including:

-Adsorbent for spilled petroleum and petroleum products;

-Adsorbent for removing dyes and some hea vy metal ions in wastewater;

-Adsorbent for post-desulfurization of fuel by deep adsorption;

-Sodium or potassium liquid silicate (water glass);

-silicon carbide;

-polysilicon;

-high purity SiO2 (the amount of inorganic mixture is less than 50 ppm);

-amorphous SiO2 (white lime), an additive suitable for cement and concrete, and a filler of epoxidase natural rubber;

Material containing C-SiO2 as mixed filler of elastomer;

-Carbon-based materials for electrochemical power sources;

-Bio-fertilizer developed by pyrolysis of rice husk or rice husk ash.

Besides the products that can be obtained by processing rice hulls, their pyrolysis is also related to the release of pyrolysis oil, which is a zero-sulfur biofuel.

Cooperation mode:

Technology development requires investment in industrial and/or pilot devices under the developed technical scheme, marketing and commercialization of products. Therefore, the team seeks to reach a commercial agreement with the technical assistance of industrial partners to implement technology or technical agreement for further technology development, so as to continue technology development according to the specific existing technology capabilities of partners.
