Greek SME is a certified organic pomegranate products company established in Volos, Greece in 2012. The company's integrated turnkey production complex includes pomegranate orchards, equipped with integrated by-product recovery units, and completed industrial processing plants. Driven by environmental values, the company has been following ecological farming practices throughout its range of activities. In this context, terms such as sustainability, self-sufficiency, well-being, environmental and social responsibility are the roadmap for their daily agenda.
This perception applies to orchard cultivation strategies aimed at "healing the soil." Based on circular economy principles, we have developed a protocol for the cultivation of beneficial microorganisms - known by the common name as probiotics, and through the application of a comprehensive recycling program, this protocol is given a key role in ensuring self-sufficiency and sustainability throughout the enterprise stages of sexual production.
The product of this farming technique is an anaerobic fermentation soil conditioner with bioenergy due to its excess in organic matter and microbial populations. In this way, the microbes themselves are considered to be the orchard soil health and well-being of the soil microbiota, which in turn is reflected in the vigor of the trees and the fruit they provide.
By 2019, as the trees have grown and matured accordingly, the company has achieved integration by establishing an industrial unit for juicing and production of organic pomegranate juice within the space of the orchard, in addition to standing as an additive-free production through cold extraction. Fresh frozen juice, itself an essential ingredient in other products in the range, including a wide variety of pomegranate jelly, sweet and sour pomegranate jam and pomegranate caviar. The juice is as pure as possible, without additives, and contains the essence of the pomegranate aril, which is carefully removed from the fruit through a multi-stage process before extraction. The arils are compressed with a high content of polyphenols and rich in other antioxidants, resulting in a sweet and sour taste.
Due to the company's agricultural agreements, there is a quantitative limit to their annual production capacity, considering that they rely entirely on their own resources to deliver their products, no outsourcing is involved.
The estimated annual production of pomegranate juice on the market is 100,000 units as climatic conditions allow. For the remaining products, there is a more flexible production schedule, which is produced on demand year-round, with stored frozen pomegranate juice as the main ingredient.
Product sales are as follows:
Pomegranate juice in 500ml PET bottle,
Pomegranate jelly in a 210gr glass jar,
Pomegranate sweet and sour sauce in 240ml glass bottle,
Pomegranate caviar in a 90g glass jar.
Currently, these products are available in two electronics stores in Greece. At this stage, the company is ready to enter the European catering market with relevant standards. To this end, they work with European importers, wholesalers and specialty food retail chains to introduce and promote their products to Europe under contract.
