Brief introduction:
Project objectives :(I) to improve the efficiency and safety of the transport of passengers and goods along the hoogley river; (ii) Establish a spatial planning framework to improve the accessibility of the Calcutta metropolitan area.
Details:
Component A: Strengthening the capacity of inland water transport institutions.
This component will support the West Bengal Government's assessment of the transport sector, identification and development of the scope of sector planning, regulatory and institutional reforms, assessment of governance structures, operational, financial planning, safety management and capacity enhancement of key institutions.
Component B: Planning and priority investment in technical assistance. This component will support medium - and long-term spatial, mobility and logistics planning to improve livelihoods and mobility within Calcutta, as well as links to the port.
Component C: Infrastructure investment to improve water transport. This component will provide infrastructure investments to improve urban passenger mobility and freight transport in two phases, with short - and long-term solutions addressing the critical needs of the current IWT system through three sub-components.
Component D: Implementation support. This component will provide financial technical assistance and advisory services to the PMU and the Project Steering Committee (PSC), including project management and coordination of costs associated with project implementation; Feasibility consulting services and concepts; Detailed design; Support instrument sub-project; Prepare follow-up actions; Mobilizing expertise and exchanging international experience; To support PSC and LOGISTICS Associations, as well as capacity development and policy support for climate change mitigation and adaptation through specific consultations, knowledge activities and staff training.
